The shoe that loves heel starts

Imagine if cars made shoes, would that mean they have the ability to walk without slipping, cushion your toes if your trip or shine lights on the floor at night to show you where you’re walking. I wish they would because lately in this weather walking has been an utter disaster. It would be nice to have a shoe that comes with all safety features of my Vauxhall. Essex has been wet, icy, and snowy, and was far too dangerous to go shopping last weekend, even in my Uggs i was sliding all over the place. Perhaps cars should make heels and save us women from some battered knees and huge heel replacement bills.

Alton Towers Peugeot Driving School

I didn’t know this but Alton Towers have got a Peugeot driving school ride. You can race around the roads and learn to drive at the quirky little driving school, and on completing the course the marshal presents you with a driving license. Sadly this is for 4 year olds and you have to be between 1 and 1.4 metres to ride.  I doubt very much they actually teach the child to drive, be very good though, and get them learning rules of the road very early. The cars are not used Peugeot 4007 in Surrey, they look to be Peugeot 206 CC’s. I wonder if you could drive GT versions round the track, might find the next Jenson Button

The Flying Car (For When You’re High)

What some people do to their cars is unspeakable. Giant spoilers, fat exhausts and replacing every panel they can with carbon fibre etc… It gets a little ridiculous. On the other hand you can go so over the top and drown your car that it looks like a giant gnawing robot. I’m not too sure if this car is designed for effect or whether it actually works and someone drives it to work and back. I am intrigued to see what car is beneath the mask; my guess is some ford or Suzuki. London racing gangs would stop in their tracks if this ever entered against their supped-up cars. Quite the jaw dropper and if this car works and that exhaust and engine is real then well I’ll eat my dust.

2010 Volvo that STOPS itself!

I’m not too sure how long this advert has been around for, but finally a car that actually stops itself! The new Volvo XC60 with City Safety… its genius and this truly is the future for car manufacturers. The Volvo XC60 was named the 2010 International Truck of the Year by the International Car of the Year jury earlier this month. It’s a shame my cousins Volvo V50 in Essex didn’t come with this functionality when she went into the rear of someone. This is a feature long over-due and I’m extremely pleased it’s here.

Fiery Ford Focus – that’ll keep you warm this winter!

Alarmingly it has been said that up to 30,000 Ford Focuses are being recalled over worries that a cold snap could cause their engines to catch fire.

The salt from gritted roads has been blamed, after Ford revealed it could damage the cars’ cooling system, causing the engine to overheat and ignite.

According to Ford the problem follows a change in specification to the cooling fan, resulting in a risk of ‘corrosion build up’ triggered by winter gritting. Ford has said the corrosion could damage the fan’s electrics.
This fiery problem was initially detected in the summer, but now many Focus owners are only now receiving recall letters.

The recall covers all Ford Focuses with 1.8 and 2.0-litre TDCi turbo diesel engines, manufactured between February 20, 2004 and May 31, 2006.

A Ford spokesman said the final batch of recall letters were now being sent out and all affected owners should be notified ’soon’.

So consider this a warning if you have an old Focus – contact your local dealer and trade in for a cheap Ford Ka. Essex has some amazing deals going on.

Safest cars under £10k

My youngest sister is learning to drive and in a bid to protect herself and the likes of others when she finally passes we’re looking in getting her a really safe, reliable car. Out of 10 suggested safe cars, we opted for the Seat Leon as it is based on the Gold MkV with very much of the same underpinnings and it has a range of engines. The Leon’ sharp handling and sporty orientation make it a pleasant drive and the price tag falls at around £6 for a 1.2 which is ideal for a newbie driver and as an added bonus in a crash test the Leon scored a 4/5 stars for adult occupants and higher scores for child and pedestrian protection. With 6 airbags, seatbelt pretensioners and a wide range of active safety programmes help keep this car and its occupants out of harm’s way.

Even the Seat Altea is fun to drive and offers VW-proven build quality. And with used prices from £4,500 it’s a nice price for a first car. The 1.9 diesel is the pick of the engines with the XL models offering a decent chunk more boot space – perfect for her many pairs of shoes. It has 6 airbags and scored 5/5 on adult occupant safety and 4/5 on child occupant safety. It also has ABS, traction control, load limiters and the pedestrian-friendly design is also ground-breaking. Searching for safe cars for my sister is provoking me to get a Seat, i have always know that the VW is the most reliable as they are built like small houses but they are more pricey than some other makes.

The plastics

Those cars that have the Carbon Fibre bonnet, body panels and shells are those ones that are built to be light, agile and fly like a bat out of hell. Carbon Fibre is lighter than steel or aluminium and has excellent strength-to-weight ratio.  Some say carbon fibre is the racing cars material for the road and many of these sports cars have the high tech engine, transmission and aerodynamics. The Ferrari Enzo, Lotus Elise and the Bugatti are to name a few from the plastics family and we love them…we wouldn’t expect to see much left after an accident but car manufacturers have been constantly toying with alternatives to steel that would make their cars cheaper to build or help reduce weight. Despite the plastics popularity in the ‘need for speed’ market manufacturers are building fast and safe cars like Suzuki. London street racers are beginning to ditch the common carbon fibre trickery and opting for honest muscle and power.

Construction safety

I always hear really sad news stories about young kids playing around construction sites. One kicking the ball too hard and losing it over a fence, when the other goes to retrieve it; they accidently fall 40ft and never come back. When you hear of unfortunate accidents like this you wonder how it happens in the first place with all of the precautions and safety procedures that hard hated men have to follow. We all know kids feel immortal and love adventure, but i do think more needs to be done about the health and safety training in Kent. If it’s not kids messing around in business they shouldn’t then its drunken louts who think they’re hilarious on Friday and Saturday nights, moving cones, knocking down signs. I know for a fact that this happens because i see it. People make more accident claims from construction type accidents; i think something needs to be done to better control this situation. Training is one thing but organising better safety procedures could reduce the risks and levels of dangers. Health and safety is priceless and shouldn’t be approached lightly.

The car for drunken hunters! Space for Guns, Fridge and Cocktail bar.

Holland & Holland, makers of “the world’s finest sporting guns” and Overfinch, makers of tuner Range Rovers, have joined forces to create the ultimate luxury off-roader for drunk hunters. The Holland & Holland Range Rover is “a quintessentially English take on motoring luxury,” with interior fittings to store wine bottles and hunting rifles.

The mean machine features a raft of “enhancements” including a full body kit and 20 inch wheels to dress up the chic exterior. But on the inside, that the designers have gone extravagant boasting eight of Europe’s finest hides, of a grade so fine it is only normally used in private jets. The upholstery has been dyed in seven exclusive tones and a unique trim style covers the seats, doors, upper and lower dash board, centre and rear consoles and even the cubby box lid.

A thirty-one piece wood veneer kit blends into the design of the rest of the car, including that of the gun cabinet and rear console.

Only one hundred Holland & Holland Overfinches will be produced each year, and every one will be fitted with a special “shotgun-grade” steel plaque. All vehicles will be strict four-seaters as the cars feature a unique centre console and have an integrated refrigerator large enough for a couple of full size bottles. It also has a storage compartment, which could contain controls for the rear entertainment, a power inverter for a laptop or crystal tumblers and champagne flutes.

In the boot is a bespoke gun cabinet although it is itself removable for when more luggage carrying capacity is required, it is locked to the boot floor for security and safety. It has three drawers, fitted to carry eight further matching Holland & Holland crystal tumblers and flutes, customers’ own shotguns, a cleaning kit for them as well as cartridges and the bag in which to carry them.

Contained within both the gun cabinet and the refrigerator in the centre console is room for six bottles and it is for these that the car will feature the world’s first self-replenishing cocktail cabinet. All cars sold in Europe will arrive from the factory full of Pol Roger Champagne, The Balvenie single malt whisky, Hendrick’s single batch gin, Ivan the Terrible luxury vodka and Willow Spring Water from the Lake District. During the first year regular refills will be dispatched to the owners of the car to make sure that its passengers don’t go thirsty or sober.

While the wine-and-guns Overfinch won’t make it to the UAE, since both are thankfully restricted here, the regular 2010 Range Rover will hit GCC showrooms this winter.
